Weird Fishes is part of a series of paintings I have been making in 2024 which explore the coastline close to where I live in Cornwall.

Each painting is an invitation into the underwater world of the shapes and creatures that live there, which I have drawn from life and imagination. Acrylic inks are mixed on the page where the otherworldly colours layer and merge over and between each other, reminiscent of the constantly changing light under the water. The repetitive lines and marks on the shells and fish are a soothing meditation on natures impressive geometry and patterns, which I have studied from the numerous shells, remnants of small abandoned homes, that I have collected from the shoreline over the years I have lived here.

Weird Fishes is painted and drawn with a mix of media on paper. I love to use acrylic inks and pens, wax pastel and coloured pencil to build the washes and layers within my work. The original paintings have a vibrancy that just cannot be fully replicated in the prints, especially in the pinks, blues and aquas!
